Text: Judges 6: 11 – 16
No individual can give a reassuring statement of his or her being ever-present with his/her people. It is only God that can do this. That is why His name is Jehovah Shammah, the “One Who is Present”, or “the Lord at Hand”, or “the Lord is There”. If there is anything anyone covets today, it is having an infinite being, like God, who will always help him or her carry out his or her specific tasks. The name, ‘Gideon, means ‘the mighty man of valour’. Also known as Jerubbaal, Gideon was called by God to deliver His people while he threshed wheat secretly for fear of depredations by the Midianites. As a lad, he was called to the great task of delivering the Israelites, the gravity of which was enough for Gideon to chat with God before he took up the responsibility. Even though his clan was the weakest in Manasseh, and he was the least in his own family, God assured him of His abiding presence.
Just as He promised, God was with Gideon in all situations, even when he passed through thick and thin. Are you feeling lonely? Have you been deserted by friends, spouse, or even parents? God is assuring you of His abiding presence. Jesus said, “ I am the vine; you are the branches, if a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruits; apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
Prayer: Father Almighty, I know You are always with me, You are always watching over me. I have a constant mighty protector, I’m certain of this because you promised that you will never abandon me. Thank you Oh Lord for your presence in my life. Amen.
